VISION and VALUES

It is important to me to share my vision and values, to help you know if we might be a good fit, and to better understand where all of my techniques and processes are grounded in. If you have any questions or comments please contact me at twostridesforwardequestrian@gmail.com

Vision

To combine a strong background in traditional training methods, knowledge of human and equine learning theory and nervous system functioning, with intuitive and trauma-informed techniques, grounded in the goal of improving the well-being of both horse and human, and the relationship between the two.

I strongly believe that the more traditional worlds of competition, sport, and therapeutic riding do not need to be separated from the more holistic, intuitive, and trauma-informed practices that are becoming more prevalent today. I have seen the benefit to both horse and human, as well as the depth and richness in the relationship between the two, when intuitive and empathetic practices are infused into traditional spaces.

Values

I reject the premise of looking down on others based on their age, ability, race, gender, social means, skill level, or discipline of choice. I strive to treat every human and horse with the same level of respect, dignity, and compassion.

I reject the premise that the horse is a tool to be used for our own needs at the expense of their own well-being. I respect the horse’s needs, and treat them as a sentient being, letting them maintain autonomy within the bounds of a safe parameter, and strive for ongoing two-way communication.

I reject the premise that once one has obtained a certain level of certification or experience, that learning is done. I commit to continuing to develop my own learning based on the latest research, a wide variety of professionals, and of course the lessons that horses teach us every day.

I meet each client where they are at, without judgement, and strive to create a container of safety, both physical and emotional.

I believe that learning is a non-linear journey that should be fun and fair for human and horse alike.
